Rich Content, Made Specially for You
As well as encouraging you to enjoy Christmas Shopping, our ethos at Craft Festival is to present events that make you think, help you learn something new and give you a deeper understanding into the mind of the maker. We invited our exhibitors to Show and Tell with themes that ranges from learning about processes to understanding the importance of storytelling.
We have been honoured to have work with Craftspace, Devon Guild, New Brewery Arts, Mission Gallery, Crafts Council, Gloucestershire Guild, Applied Arts Scotland, Design Nation and Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre.
Each organisation hosted a Show & Tell and you can watch these fascinating films from November 27th at 10am over on the Digital Craft Festival website or on our YouTube Channel. They will also be broadcast on Facebook throughout the Festival weekend.
This week, the team at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre have made their individal choices for this weeks 5 favourites from Digital Craft Festival.
You can also read on to hear about our next podcast episode with Llantarnam Grange director, Louise Jones-Williams and the chance to win Alex Pole's new book, The Forge Kitchen.
Louise's 5 Favourites
Abeer Kayani
Our Marketing Officer, Bob Gelsthorpe: I think Abeer Kayani’s textiles and wearables are wonderful – not only are they vibrant and eye-catching, but they feel totally individual and universal all at once. I’m getting one this Christmas, hope you do too!
Kathy Hutton
Our Senior Education officer, Louise Tolcher-Goldwyn: I adore the composition of Kathy Hutton’s prints and the combination of linear pattern and joyous flashes of colour.
Becky Crow
Our Administrator, Alice Bethune: As a fan of fantasy and storytelling Becky Crow’s beautiful pieces of jewellery really appeal to me, especially the ones with people and animals. For something so small to encourage creative thinking by using your imagination to think ‘what are they doing?’, ‘who are they?’, ‘what are they going to discover?’ and how the wearer or the viewer may interpret those little scenes, is fascinating. I would love to show Becky’s work as part of our jewellery showcase in the future.
Francisca Onumah
Our Exhibitions Assistant, Savanna Dumelow: Francisca Onumah featured in our Portal exhibition in 2018. I love the dark oxidised finish on her vessels and the way they’ve been shaped and marked, bringing human elements to each piece. Francisca will be showcasing her work with us next year and I’m excited to see her and the creations in person.
Angie Parker
Our Director Louise Jones-Williams: Angie Parker’s beautiful rugs and hand woven blankets sing with vibrant colours inspired by India, graffiti and her home town of Bristol. I can’t wait to see her work as part of our Christmas show ‘Blanket Coverage’ at Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre.
The Capital of Craft
This week on The Capital of Craft podcast, our guest is Louise Jones-Williams, director and curator of Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre.
Based in Cwmbran, South Wales, Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre is a long term partner of Craft Festival and we were delighted to be able to sit and talk about The Capital of Craft from the curators perspective. The podcast was recorded before the Second Lockdown.
Sarah will be talking live on Instagram with Louise Jones-Williams at 10am today on @craftfestival (Thursday November 19) and Louise's podcast is available to download now.
