Karen Nicol Textile Artist

Karen Nicol Textile Artist Studied Art Foundation and BA (Hons) Multidisciplinary Design. I was a photographer who loved the texture and warmth of fabric and the stitched line, and I now combine these passions to create unique and original framed freehand machine-embroidered and appliquéd pieces using an embroidery hoop and fine threads. In my studio on the edge of Dartmoor, and inspired by our elegant Whippets, I learnt to draw with my sewing machine. My subjects are usually animals and I endeavour to capture their character, grace or movement. A large part of my work is commissioned, at home and internationally, which provides me with a huge and enjoyable diversity. Often inspired by a vintage fabric or a photograph, my imagination leads me to sew the quirky, beautiful, magical, humorous or touching. Prices range from £200 to £600, and average framed size is about 50x40cm. Commissions and studio visits welcome..
