Imagine North

Textiles

I work from my small Attic studio located in a beautiful Scottish Highland Glen. using thread as my medium I create dreamlike embroidered artworks, made to be quietly contemplative, they come from a desire to explore ideas around space and meaning, drawing influence from the landscape, wildlife and folklore where I live. I was left deaf after a viral infection a few years ago, my world became silent and insular, I try to convey the silence in each and every piece I make. I paint on artist's canvas before layering with tiny stitches, using just the needle and straight stitch guided by hand on my domestic sewing machine, ensuring each piece is unique. Simplicity is at the very heart of my work. I studied Fine Art at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen and have a BA (Hons) and MFA. I currently have work in galleries across the United Kingdom.
