We asked Founder of Selvedge, Polly Leonard about her top 5 to watch at The Contemporary Craft Festival. She’s made some lovely choices….You can meet all these makers and 200 more in Bovey Tracey in June.
Elizabeth Loveday’s work is just charming. Her quirky, sensitive drawings are beautifully paired with antique textiles such as doilies. She recently illustrated a piece for Selvedge about suffragettes – look out for that in a forthcoming issue…
We might be a little biased as we’ve had Emma Cocker’s work in the Selvedge shop window and she’s been a favourite at our London fairs but her dapper, cleverly made little characters always raise a smile.
I love linen, so Helen Round's work has immediate appeal. Her pared down line drawings work perfectly with this fabric – as does her choice of subject matter – botanical illustrations. Tea towels this pretty make doing the dishes almost pleasurable.
Little Burrow Designs by Claire Read is definitely one to watch. Her frames and tins, full of sweet found objects and hand stitched messages, have a story to tell and would make the perfect gift.
Katie Almond uses her ceramics like a canvas. Colourful, cheerful and childlike they would brighten the tea table and make any occasion feel special – just add cake!
